Thivô

Thivô has earned wide recognition for her vibrant Nerikomi ceramic vessels,  alive with a symphony of colors embracing  figures  prepared to leap off  the clay and into the room.  Her subject matter incorporates a host of multicolored themes:  flowers, landscapes, dancers and abstract designs. Many of her works are inspired by lands she has visited, and animal and marine life she has observed. Since Nerikomi, Thivô’s specialty, is a handbuilding technique based upon the use of myriad small stained and layered pieces of  clay  carefully  joined  together,   the figure or pattern that emerges is identical on both  the inside and outside surfaces of  the vessel.  The contrasting clay pieces can be  strips,  coils or  small slabs.  Thivô states,  “Building Nerikomi  vessels with colored clays is indeed a demanding  technical challenge and requires great patience. But difficulty aside, this technique allows me to integrate forms,  surfaces and colors;  generating  relationships between   the  interior  and exterior that induce a feeling of movement and  transiting the vessel wall”.   Thivô studied this technique  at the renowned and prestigious Ecole  Nationale Supérieure  des   Beaux-Arts  in   Paris, France.  Her  Nerikomi  works grace both public and private collections across the nations.  Her ceramic studio is currently located at Miami Iron Side.
